Boot camp – the one with no saved daylight

by Skye Tyler on April 6, 2009

I feel cheated – we’ve just turned the clocks back from daylight saving and it’s still dark when we get to boot camp. It’s also really cold at under 10 degrees. There are three of us jumping up and down on the spot trying to stay warm.

Warm up

Five laps of the car park on a slope. About 15 minutes or so of running all up.

Circuit

Jog down the hill for about 200 metres, sprint up and do a set of push ups. The first time we do 10 push ups, then 8, 6, 4, 2 and 10 again.

Another circuit

300 metre run and 80 shoulder presses with the ‘rifle’ (a wooden weight). Repeat four times. 300 metre run and 80 tricep extensions with the ‘rifle’. Repeat four times.

Push ups

Push ups on an angle using a step instead of hands flat on the ground. Two sets of 50.

Step ups

8 sets of step ups, 15 on each leg. The benches we’re using for step ups are all different heights – a couple of them feel like my knee is touching my chin.

Cardio

Two laps of the time trial circuit we use for the fitness test. 800 m with a substantial hill as the last part of the lap.

Cool down?

Any sort of cool down seems to be strangely absent from recent workouts. We just wander off to our cars and try to remember where we’re training on Wednesday.
